Cornell’s First And Only Business Ethics Organization

A Seat At The Table

OUR CORE VALUES

    1. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Workshops in the Spring and Summits in the Fall

    2. Diverse membership across year, major, school, professional interest, and identity

  • “Our cultural heritage shapes our history, characterizes our current identity, and shapes our future. We stand together in promoting and motivating one another to explore, safeguard, and celebrate the diversity of all ethnic heritages, thereby safeguarding the depth of our customs and broadening our understanding of various cultures, thought, abilities, and so much more.”

“When I first transferred to Cornell, I found it difficult to find others of my identity groups. ASATT gave me access to communities that have vitally shaped my Cornell experience and life as a whole.”

“Diversity means embracing a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, and having the opportunity to learn them with an open mind.”

Diversity takes many forms—intellectual, gender, racial, and beyond. We embrace our members' differences, knowing a group is stronger when it brings together multiple perspectives, experiences, and identities.

Diversity

We welcome diverse voices and aim to build a kind, inclusive community. Beyond leveraging unique experiences, we ensure all members feel valued and committed to the work we do together.

Inclusion

    1. Through our diverse array of socials from casual game nights to dinners and boat formals, we vie to create a community of individuals who all feel like they have found their place at Cornell.

    2. Our VP of DEI is always a resource for members who are facing inclusion barriers. We are committed to creating a universally inclusive environment.

  • “The absolute best part about ASATT's club culture is the value it places on inclusion. ASATT has allowed me to gain friends from all different types of backgrounds, most of whom I never had the pleasure of interacting with before joining.”

“Inclusion is super important to me because as an Afro-Latina from an immigrant household, I look for spaces where I feel included. I’ve attended a PWI since I was 14, so I understand the importance of inclusion. Therefore, I strive to bring inclusion to any space I take part in.”

“Inclusion moves beyond tokenism in its pursuit to create environments that anyone feels they can join.”

We strive for fairness in leadership and membership processes, ensuring an equitable experience for prospective and current members. We value merit, passion, and dedication, judging all members with minimal bias.

eQuity

    1. Leveraging club funds to ensure accessible events and no club fees for members of all financial backgrounds.

    2. Expecting no business knowledge or professional experience to ensure access for students of all backgrounds.

  • “People are so different from each other, and that's what makes us unique and special, but that is also what makes it harder to maintain equality. We all come from different backgrounds, with different stories, and we have different needs. I am proud of the steps I've seen ASATT take to create equality in the club, and I'm excited to see how we continue to improve in the future.”

“I believe that equity is the principle of ensuring fairness and justice by providing everyone with the resources, opportunities, and support they need to thrive, regardless of background or circumstances. It involves addressing systemic inequalities and promoting inclusivity to create a level playing field for all.”“When I first transferred to Cornell, I found it difficult to find others of my identity groups. ASATT gave me access to communities that have vitally shaped my Cornell experience and life as a whole.”

Education is at our core. New members engage in a semester-long series that prepares them for a final case study presentation. We combine original case studies, WSJ articles, and interactive experiences.

Education

    1. Our New Member Education process takes place during the first semester of each members’ time in ASATT. We prioritize educating business ethics leaders from the ground up through a discussion and case based eduseries.

    2. Our Professional Development and DEI workshops work towards ensuring continued education outside of NME.

    3. Consulting projects often expose our members to new skills and aspects of the business industry, allowing them to learn more skills outside of the classroom.

  • “Education is POWER! Whether it be pursuing a degree, trade, or overall learning, education is the gateway to so many opportunities. As a first-generation Latina, being able to obtain a degree means everything to me and my family as it allows me to continue moving forward and entering new spaces.”

“Education means always learning and striving to gain knowledge not only in a school setting but in your day-to-day life. Education also looks like learning from my own experiences and adapting to new challenges.”

“Education is taking risks to learn new things, using knowledge to make an impact, and keeping an open mind.”

Our members enjoy a supportive community while gaining valuable skills for the business world and beyond. From LinkedIn and networking to resume workshops and case study analysis, we prepare them to excel.

Professional Development

    1. Weekly Professional Development Newsletters with internship and event opportunities as well as weekly tips.

    2. Office hours with the VP of Recruitment and Development to get support with job applications or discuss anything professional development related.

    3. Professional development workshops.

  • “ASATT's dedication to professional development has been one of the greatest resources to me at Cornell. I have never hesitated to contact a member of ASATT about their professional experiences as everyone is always more than willing to provide guidance and advice. If that weren't enough, we have an amazing Director of Professional Development, who is consistently there to help with any little question or concern you may have.”

“Professional development is all about empowering people to flourish not only as individuals but also as professionals in the broader world.”

We foster a collaborative community where members work in teams. Teamwork in ideation, development, and execution is essential for success in the industries we cover, and we make it a core part of our program.

Collaboration

    1. New member education hinges on collaborative discussions and requires the completion of two collaborative group presentations.

    2. Consulting teams provide hands-on experience working collaboratively with your peers and clients.

  • “I think collaboration is a fundamental part of humanity; life would be less meaningful if we didn't have the opportunity to collaborate with others. ASATT makes it a point to instill collaboration in its members through small-group interactions and teamwork requirements. I am so thankful for the people I have worked with in ASATT and the relationships I have built from it.”

“Collaboration is the synergistic effort of individuals working together towards a common goal, leveraging diverse skills and perspectives to achieve greater outcomes than what could be accomplished individually. It involves open communication, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to success.”

We believe accountability strengthens our community. Encouraging members to own their actions fosters trust and productivity, as it removes the need to cover mistakes. When we each take responsibility, we all improve, raising our community's standard and adding value for everyone involved.

Accountability

    1. DEI Workshops and Summits push our members to continue learning about business ethics beyond NME.

    2. With a variety of leadership roles within the organization, we keep power decentralized, ensuring that every leader is held accountable by the rest of the organization.

  • “Accountability is a cornerstone of personal development and character. It empowers individuals to strive for excellence, build trust with others, and make a meaningful impact on the world around them. It is a value that fosters responsibility, transparency, and a sense of duty, ultimately leading to personal growth and a more just and trustworthy society.”

“To me, accountability means always being there for your friends, classmates, and team members. It means taking responsibility for your actions and commitments.”

“It means taking ownership of your work and being a responsible and active teammate.”

We believe in fostering cooperative teams that go beyond collaboration. Cooperation nurtures respect, smooth delegation, and self-improvement, promoting solidarity. By understanding that a team is more than the sum of its parts, members recognize they will succeed together as a cohesive unit.

COOPERATION

    1. Our members come from diverse backgrounds and are all brought together to push for business ethics in the workforce. This requires cooperation towards a shared vision for what business could look like.

    2. With various parts of our organization—Eboard, Advisory board, the NME team, and Consulting teams—we utilize cooperation to bring together each separate part into a unified whole.

  • “Cooperation, for me, goes beyond mere collaboration; it's about nurturing a sense of unity within ASATT. It's the idea that we're not just individuals working together, but a closely-knit group where mutual respect, effective delegation, and solidarity are the cornerstones. By standing together as a cohesive unit, we can achieve remarkable results and truly elevate our collective potential.”

“Cooperation means recognizing that we are all interconnected and that our collective success depends on our ability to put aside differences and work harmoniously to achieve shared objectives. It embodies the spirit of teamwork and synergy, essential for achieving sustainable and meaningful outcomes.”

We advocate for a community of apprenticeship that extends beyond recruiting diverse talent each semester. We focus on hands-on experience, regardless of members' positions. This approach fosters trust among individuals who may not otherwise work closely, enhancing their growth .

APPRENTICESHIP

    1. Our big-little lin system pairs a new member with a mentor by the end of their first semester, providing them with a relationship to continue their own learning and participate in the passing down of knowledge.

    2. With various opportunities—Eboard, Consulting Project Management, and leading an NME Committee—ASATT provides our members with hands-on leadership experience.

  • “To me, apprenticeship is all about gaining knowledge that others are willing to pass on. I have experienced SO MUCH apprenticeship from members of ASATT, both personally and professionally, and I cannot wait to pass that onto the new members of ASATT in the future!”

“Apprenticeship fosters a direct mentorship relationship between experienced professionals and learners, facilitating the transfer of industry-specific knowledge and promoting the development of a skilled workforce”

“Apprenticeship means learning from experienced and welcoming mentors about the career you want to build for yourself!”
